Bugeaters

From 1890 to 1899, Nebraska sports teams were known as the Bugeaters, named after the insect-eating bullbats that hovered over the plains. Then in 1900, Lincoln sportswriter Charles Sherman decided the teams needed a new name so he started referring to them as “Cornhuskers”. However, the Bugeater name is forever famous—especially for home-brewed Upstream root beer.
