House Brewer, Old Market
Jason Payne received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Iowa
in 2001. After working as a chemist at a fermentation plant for a year, Jason joined
the Upstream Brewing Company in 2003 as an assistant brewer. He held this position
for a year before being promoted to Head Brewer in the Old Market. Jason has
contributed to many of the new projects the brewery has encountered in the last
couple of years — start-up of a second brewery, installing a new draught system
downtown and producing the ever-growing selection of beers at the Upstream. He
has even begun to contribute to the Upstream Seasonal list with some of his own
unique beer concoctions.
